The Electro Optical Infrared Systems (EOIS) line of business within DRS has locations in Dallas and Austin, TX, Melbourne, FL, and Cypress, CA. EOIS develops, manufactures, and supports infrared and electro-optical solutions for soldiers, ground vehicles, and airborne platforms. Job Responsibilities


  • Responsible for leading a group of engineers on a technical activity and completion of activity on time and budget.
  • Design, develop, analyze, document, and support testing of products, systems, or subsystems.
  • May use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments. Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable.
  • Provide budget, cost, and schedule input for design assignments.
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services.
  • Drive the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements.
  • Develop prototypes to retire key development risks.
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required.
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals.
  • Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel.
  • Lead and direct the work of others as assigned.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetings.
  • Lead less-experienced engineers.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree.
    • 5+ years of experience in a relevant engineering/technical field.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD Clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
    • Experience with manufacturing methods and processes, factory standards, fabrication processes, and assembly documentation.
    • Excellent grasp of heat and mass transfer.
    • Understanding of materials and material properties.
    • Design of experiments and practical problem solving.
    • Well-developed communication skills, both in verbal presentations and written documentation.
    • Ability to work in a team environment.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M.

      Desired Skills

      • Experience with optical systems.
      • Familiarity with cryogenics, vacuum technology, infrared imaging systems, opto-mechanical design, and electromagnetism.
      • Experience with transitioning new designs into production.
      • Proficiency using Creo (Pro/E) or equivalent 3D CAD tool.
      • Knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100.

        U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
